Some Examples of Ethical conduct
- Integrity: Doing the right thing even when no-one is watching you.
- Fairness: just treatment, appropriate with the circumstance.
- Being trustworthy: fulfilling an assigned task, being dependable, and reliable.
- Being accountable: Being responsible for consequences of one’s actions.
- Being truthful, fair, sincere and doing things openly.
- Exposing bad practices like cheating during exams, corruption and vandalism.
Unethical BehaviorThis is any action that goes against the set laws, rules and regulations. Some Examples of Unethical Behavior among the Youth
- A student stealing a book from the school library
- Illegally accessing a national examination paper before it is written.
- Using mobile internet to get answers during examinations.
- Giving money to a head teacher in order to get a school place.
- Stealing money from your mother’s hand bag.
- Taking credit for work which you did not do.
- Destroying forests and other natural resources.
- Dumping industrial wastes into the river.
- Not paying an employee for all of the hours worked.
- Price fixing to force smaller competitors out of business.
- Using false advertising tactics to convince customers to buy a product.
- Teachers having sexual relationships with students.
- A lawyer not returning money which was being held for a client.
- Stealing public money.
The Role of Youth In The Fight Against Corruption
- Be truthful and raise voice against injustice.
- Be youth of high integrity – resist, reject and report corrupt practices to ACB.
- Always lead a life of service
- Teach good life values to society.
Sources of Ethics
- Religious beliefs: Bible and Qur’an encourage good virtues of love, sharing, honesty, truthfulness, selflessness.
- Big Laws of the country: Certain actions are prohibited under the constitution.
- International standard of life: This is guided by universal human rights and other international laws.
- Other laws of the country: Like Corrupt Practices Act; Bi-laws, etc.
- Organizational code of conduct: Every organisation has its rules for its members.
- Service Charter: Description of what the organization provides to its customers, how it delivers, and what customers should expect from them.
- Profession’s code of conduct: Every profession has its own code of conduct.
