On 29th July, 2019, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) received a complaint alleging that
public officers at Mwanza border were demanding bribes in order for them to issue cross
border permits to bus operators ferrying passengers to the Republic of South Africa.
On 4th December, 2019, the Anti-Corruption Bureau, in a joint operation with the Malawi
Police Service, arrested Dyson Mchenga, a Road Traffic Assistant after he had received a
K300,000.00 bribe from an agent of South African registered Dijamu 850 Coaches.
Dyson Mchenga will be taken to Court where he will be informed about the charges after the
ACB has recorded a statement from him. The ACB is warning all public officers against
soliciting and receiving payment for services which are supposed to be offered for free.
