On 24th July, 2017, the Anti-Corruption Bureau received a complaint alleging that Grace
Misanjo was still receiving a salary as a primary school teacher when she had left the
profession in 2013 to further her studies and continued to do so after she secured another
job with another public entity.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau instituted investigations into the matter which established that
Grace Misanjo had drawn MK6,380,715 as salaries from the Ministry of Education from
November 2013 to August 2019.
On 21st November, 2019, the Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested Grace Misanjo. Misanjo was
taken to the Blantyre Magistrates Court where she was charged with one count of theft by
servant contrary to Section 286 as read with Section 271 of the Penal Code.
The Court granted her bail after satisfying the following conditions:
• Produced to the Court K100,000.00 cash as bail bond;
• Produced two sureties bonded at K50,000.00 cash each; and
• Ordered to report at ACB Blantyre office once every fortnight.
She will appear in Court on 13th December, 2019 for commencement of trial.
