On 14th and 30th September, 2022, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested two
Magistrate Court officers namely Mr. George Shaba and Mr Zakeyu Honde were
arrested in Karonga and Rumphi respectively who at the time of committing the offence
were working at Katowo Magistrate Court in Hewe, Rumphi.
Mr Shaba has been charged with stealing by persons in public service contrary to
Sectional 283(1) of the Penal Code and theft contrary to section 271(1) as read with
278 of the Penal Code. Mr Honde has been charged with abuse of office contrary to
section 25 (B) of the Corrupt Practices Act, stealing by persons in public service
contrary to Sectional 283(1) of the Penal Code and general theft contrary to Section
271(1) as read with 278 of the Penal Code.
The Karonga case has been adjourned to 31 October 2022 while the Rumphi case is
awaiting directions from the Magistrate.
