On 17th June, 2020, the Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested Mr. Mujadil Jong Malukula and Mr. Edson Masebo, public officers who were working at Mangochi Town Council. Both were arrested on allegations that they illegally sold 2 plots of land belonging to Mangochi Town Council without the approval of the Council and did not remit proceeds of the sale amounting to over K2,000,000.00 to the Council.
On 4th October, 2022. the Senior Resident Magistrates Court in Mangochi convicted Mujadil Jong Malukula, a Lands officer at Mangochi District Council, on two counts of abuse of office contrary to section 25B (1) of the Corrupt Practices Act. Mr. Masebo has been acquitted of the offence of aiding and abetting a corrupt practice contrary to Section 35 of the Corrupt Practices Act or in the alternative, neglect of official duty contrary to Section 121 of the Penal Code.
The Court has revoked bail for Mr. Malukula. The matter has been adjourned to 27 October 2022 for sentencing.
