On 15th March, 2023, the Chief Resident Magistrate’s Court in Lilongwe convicted Ms.
Elida Kumbewe Data entry Clerk at the Directorate of Road Traffic and Safety
Services in Lilongwe for corruptly obtaining an advantage contrary to Section 24(1)
of the corrupt Practices Act.
The Bureau investigations had established Elida Kumbewe had in 2018 while working
at the DRTSS extorted money amounting to K64,000.00 from Anderson Koloni
through Chapi Saidi Chiloboti in order to help Koloni process his category PG driver’s
license.
On 16th March, 2023, the Chief resident Magistrate Court sentenced her to eighteen
months imprisonment with hard labour. The sentences have been suspended for a
period of twenty-four months. The Bureau is not appealing against the sentence
since the convict pleaded guilty and did not waste the Court’s and prosecution’s time.
