COURT CONVICTS MR. ULADI MUSSA AND TWO OTHERS, ACQUITS TWO

On 6th March, 2017, the Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested Mr. Uladi Mussa, former Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security and Mr. David H. Kwanjana, (former Senior Assistant Chief Immigrations Officer) Regional Immigration Officer Center. They were taken to Lilongwe Magistrate’s Court where they were charged with neglect of official duties contrary to Section 121 of the Penal Code and misuse of public office contrary to Section 25B (1) of the Corrupt Practices Act.

The AC also arrested Mr. Esili Kubwiyamana, a Burundian, Pascal Rwasa, a Rwandese and Peter Katasya, a Ugandan in connection with the same case. The case was later committed to the High Court.

On 13th October, 2020, the High Court in Lilongwe found Mr. Uladi Mussa, Mr. David H. Kwanjana and Mr. Peter Katasya guilty. The Court acquitted Mr. Esili Kubwimana and Mr. Pascal Rwasa who were suspected of benefitting from the corrupt practice.

Following the conviction, bail for the three has been revoked and are in custody at
Maula prison. They will appear in Court on 22nd October, 2020 for sentencing.
