DATE : 27 MARCH 2026
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) wishes to inform the general public that it has issued a Restriction Notice on the planned public auction by Nkhotakota District Council, as advertised by MEPA Auctioneers. The auction which was scheduled to take place on 26th March 2026 at Nkhotakota District Council shall therefore not proceed until further notice. The restriction follows concerns surrounding the disposal process of the listed items, including motor vehicles, motorcycles, and institutional equipment.
Prior to the auction, the Bureau had received a complaint alleging that some of the items to be auctioned had already been allocated to some people. It was also alleged that some of the motor vehicles and motorcycles had some parts removed for them to look as scrap motor vehicles and motorcycles to be auctioned.
The Bureau has therefore commenced an investigation into the allegation and issued the restriction notice to allow for further scrutiny and verification of the procedures governing the intended sale.
Members of the public are advised that it is an offence under section 31 (1) of the Corrupt Practices Act to conduct in corrupt activities in relation to auction sales.
