The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) informs the public that on 19th February 2026, it arrested Mr Gift Mponda, a Radiology Technician at Zomba Central Hospital. The arrest took place on allegations that he abused his office by collecting money from a patient at Zomba Central Hospital for the patient to be scanned.
Mr. Mponda appeared before the Zomba Senior Resident Magistrate Court on 20th February 2026, where he was charged with the offence of abuse of public office, contrary to section 25B (1) as read with section 34 of the Corrupt Practices Act. He was eventually released on police bail.
The arrest comes at a time when there are reports of rampant corrupt practices in public hospitals, which the ACB has started investigating. The ACB remains committed to pursuing all cases of corruption and ensuring that all individuals involved are held accountable under the law.
