On 15th April 2025, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Honourable Yeremiah Chihana on allegations that as Member of Parliament for Mzimba North Constituency, abused public office, for his advantage.
The ACB investigations found that Honourable Yeremiah Chihana requested Mzimba District Council to make payments of K14,000,000.00 and K15,000,000.00 to Northworks Company Ltd being advance payment and second payment respectively for the grading of KIA-Luhomero-Kasasile road; Enukweni-Kavula-Malokotera road; and Bwengu-Katope road with full knowledge that the road rehabilitation works will not be done by the Northworks Ltd.
The investigation also established that Honourable Yeremiah Chihana did not declare interest that he was in a contractual agreement with Northworks Ltd, a company that was awarded a contract for the rehabilitation of KIA-Luhomero-Kasasile road; Enukweni-Kavula-Malokotera road; and Bwengu-Katope road in his constituency.
He will be charged with two counts of abuse of office contrary to Section 25D (2) (a) of the Corrupt Practices Act and one count of failure to declare interest contrary to Section 25D (2) (a) of the Corrupt Practices Act.
