On 6th August, 2019, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) received an allegation that
Messrs. Peter Ntopa, Christophoro Chidam’modzi and Francis Malunga, Malawi
Revenue Authority (MRA) Tax Investigations Officers, demanded MK60 million but
received MK 12.5 million from a tax payer in Kasungu in order to reduce tax.
The ACB conducted investigations into the matter which established that the three
received MK12.5 million.
On 18th November, 2020, the ACB arrested the three former officers namely, Peter
Ntopa, Christophoro Chidam’modzi and Francis Malunga. They are expected to be
charged with corrupt practices by a public officer and corrupt use of official powers
contrary to Section 24 (1) and Section 25(1) of the Corrupt Practices Act
respectively.
They will be taken to court after the ACB has interviewed them.
