On 11 November 2024, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Muhammad Danger, Edward Black and Manesi Jeke, Community Social Support Committee Members of the Mtukula Pakhomo program in T/A Katuli in Mangochi. The three were arrested after the Bureau investigation had established that when they were working as Mtukula Pakhomo project volunteers, they demanded money from 72 beneficiaries of the program and obtained the said money from some of the beneficiaries.
On 12 November, the ACB took them to Mangochi Magistrate Court and charged them with abuse of public office contrary to section 25 B (1) as read with section 34 of the Corrupt Practices Act. They pleaded not guilty to the charge. The suspects also applied for bail and were granted the same by the Court.
Trial will commence on a date to be set by the Court.
