On 7th September, 2010, the Anti-Corruption Bureau received a complaint alleging
that Hon Christopher Mzomera Ngwira M.P. for Mzimba Hora Constituency then
presented invoices from YOGI and Mzimba Hardware on pretext that they had
supplied building materials for Lukwelukwe School Project which was funded under
LDF under Mzimba District Assembly.
On 28th September, 2020, the Mzimba Magistrate’s Court found Christopher Mzomera
Ngwira guilty of abuse of office and convicted him. On 16th October, 2020 the Court
sentenced him to forty-eight months imprisonment with hard labour. Mzomera
Ngwira appealed against both the conviction and sentence.
On 9th May, 2022, The High Court in Mzuzu dismissed the appeal and upheld the
conviction. The Court however, granted him an early release from prison due to his ill
health and the fact that he had served a substantial part of his sentence.
