On 3rd April 2025, the Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested Dester Mathewe, a public officer by virtue of his position as acting court clerk at Namitambo Magistrates Court in Chiradzulu District, on allegation that on or around the 8th day of November 2022, whilst executing his duty, abused his public office by obtaining for himself MK50,000.00 from a court user as an advantage for the said Dester Mathewe to corruptly facilitate distribution of matrimonial properties in civil cause number 253 of 2020 in favor of the said court user.
Mr. Dester Mathewe was taken to Mombezi Magistrates Court where he was charged with abuse of office contrary to section 25B (1) as read together with Section 34 of the Corrupt Practices Act. Mr. Mathewe applied to be released on bail and the Court granted him bail on the following conditions:
•To report at Namitambo Police once every Friday
•To surrender travel documents to the Court.
•To produce one surety bonded at MK40,000.00 not cash
•To pay MK20, 000.00 cash as bail bond
The matter was adjourned to a later date to be set by the Court for trial.
