The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) would like to inform members of the public and all stakeholders that it has learnt with great shock about a picture of two of its officers circulating on social media referring to them as cadets using an ACB vehicle to ambush opposition youths who were holding a press conference at the Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe.
The ACB would like to put the record straight by stating the following:
i. The ACB is a public law enforcement institution which conducts its operations according to law. It does not and cannot ambush people who are exercising their right of assembly through a press briefing.
ii. The ACB was conducting training for its officers from Monday, 30th March to Wednesday 1st April, 2020 at the Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe.
iii. The two officers whose photos appeared in the social media are drivers from ACB who were at the Crossroads Hotel in their official capacity vis a viz facilitating transport needs of the officers that were attending training at the venue.
iv. No ACB officer, let alone the drivers, attended the press conference in reference here.
v. None of ACB vehicles tailed any opposition youth vehicle.
The ACB would like to assure all Malawians that it will continue to perform its duties without partiality and will not meddle in politics.
